Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max went on general sale in Australia on 18 September 2026, priced from $2,099 AUD and $2,299 AUD. Both models are bigger and heavier than last year's Pro range, which means most existing iPhone 17 Pro cases will not fit. When did the iPhone 18 Pro launch in Australia?
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on 9 September 2026. Australian pre-orders opened at 10pm AEST on Saturday 12 September, a day later than Apple's usual pre-order slot, and the phones reached stores and doorsteps on Friday 18 September 2026. You can buy both models through Apple, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman.

The entry price rose $100 over last year's iPhone 17 Pro, and the jump gets steeper at the top: the 2TB Pro Max is up $900 year on year.
What's actually new on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max?
The headline changes are the chip, the camera and the colours. Apple's new A20 Pro chip (built on a 2-nanometer process) drives a 6-core CPU and a 7-core GPU that Apple says is around 40% faster than the previous A19 Pro, alongside a dual 16-core Neural Engine for on-device AI. The rear camera moves to a 48MP Fusion Main sensor with a variable aperture (ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4), a new computational imaging pipeline, and roughly 50% better low-light performance than the iPhone 17 Pro. Screen sizes stay at 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch with Ceramic Shield 2, the Dynamic Island is smaller and now surfaces three Live Activities at once, and both phones ship with iOS 27 and Apple Intelligence. The colour lineup is Black, Silver, Glacier and a new Burgundy finish.
Is the iPhone 18 Pro Max bigger than the iPhone 17 Pro Max?
Yes. iPhone 18 Pro measures 150 x 71.9 x 8.75mm and weighs 211g. iPhone 18 Pro Max measures 163.4 x 78 x 8.75mm and weighs 249g, making it slightly larger and heavier than last year's model. That size change is the reason last year's cases don't carry over: the cutouts for the camera array, the buttons and the charging port have all shifted, even by a millimetre or two, which is enough to throw off the fit.
Do you actually need a case for the iPhone 18 Pro Max?
At $2,099 to $4,699 AUD before you've even picked a case, most buyers do.
